ScienceIQ.com ("ScienceIQ", "we", "us") is a free science-facts website. You can read everything on the site without creating an account, signing in, or giving us any personal information. This policy explains the limited information that is collected when you visit, why, and the choices you have. It applies to www.ScienceIQ.com.
Summary
- There are no accounts, logins, subscriptions, or payments on this site.
- Our web server keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to run and protect the site.
- Google Analytics and Google advertising cookies are used only if you allow them in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of every page.
- We do not sell your personal information for money.
Information we collect
Server logs
Like almost every website, our servers automatically record basic technical information for each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser and operating system (user agent). We use these logs to operate the site, diagnose problems, and detect and block abuse and attacks. We do not use them to build profiles of individual visitors.
Your cookie choice
When you choose an option in our cookie banner, we store your choice in a cookie on your device and record it in a consent log so that we can show we honored it. The log contains a random consent ID, the choice you made (for example, "reject all"), whether your browser sent a Global Privacy Control signal, the policy version, the date and time, your IP address, and your user agent.
Analytics (only with your consent)
If you allow analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: which pages are popular, how visitors arrive, and roughly where they are located. Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish visitors and sessions. We use this information only in aggregate to improve the site.
Advertising (only with your consent)
ScienceIQ is supported by ads served by Google AdSense. If you allow advertising cookies, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance, and personalize ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google Consent Mode
We use Google Consent Mode. When analytics or advertising is turned off, Google's tag does not set or read cookies for that purpose, but it may still send Google limited, cookieless signals (such as the fact that a page was viewed) that Google uses in aggregated, modeled form.
If you email us
If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to read and reply to you.
How information is shared
We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as described here:

- Hosting, DNS and content-delivery providers process technical data such as IP addresses when they deliver the site to you.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to respond to legal process, or to protect the security of the site and its visitors. If ScienceIQ is transferred to a new owner, the limited information described here may transfer with it, subject to this policy.
Your choices
- Cookie Settings: use the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of any page to allow or block analytics and advertising cookies at any time.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a GPC signal, advertising cookies stay off unless you explicitly choose to allow them.
- Google ad settings: you can control ad personalization across Google services at My Ad Center, and opt out of interest-based advertising from many companies at aboutads.info and networkadvertising.org.
- Your browser: most browsers let you block or delete cookies. The site works normally with cookies blocked.
How long we keep information
Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting and then deleted. Consent records are kept for as long as needed to demonstrate that we honored your choice. Emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your message. How long Google keeps data is governed by Google's own policies and settings.
Children
ScienceIQ is a general-audience educational site. We do not ask for or knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, including California, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to or limit certain uses. Because we do not have accounts, we usually hold very little that can be tied to you, but we will help where we can. To make a request, please contact us. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Some privacy laws treat allowing advertising cookies as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out of this at any time by turning off advertising in Cookie Settings or by enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser.
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for analytics and advertising cookies, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site for server logs and consent records.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) for the entire site and take reasonable measures to protect the systems that run it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but because we collect so little, there is very little to protect.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be reflected in our cookie banner.
